Rams looking to grow as a team in weekend play
TORONTO - The Rams opened their season by taking three sets from the Brock Badgers on October 24th at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. After coming up short during each preseason game, the Rams were excited to finally have the outcome they wanted before their next big weekend at home.
The Rams will host Queen’s on Friday, November 2nd, at 8:00 p.m. and RMC on November 3rd at 8:00 p.m. in the Coca-Cola Court.
“This week we're going to watch a little gameplay and see what our strategy is, especially against Queen’s because we came up short all three sets when we played them in preseason. But I think we will be ready for them as long as we stay focused and play as a team,” says Xander Ketrzynski (Toronto).
At the end of September, the Rams lost to Queen's 22-25, 23-25, 22-25. If the Rams improve their accuracy in serving and the placement of the ball within the court and play like they did during their third set against Brock, they will be a challenge for Queen’s.
After the Rams saw 15 kills from Ketrzynski and nine kills from Eric Girard (Ottawa, Ont.) against Brock, the Rams know they are capable of being an offensive threat. In terms of defense, Navreet Suhan (Mississauga, Ont.) is sitting second on the OUA leaderboard with 1.33 blocks per set, and Adam Sandeson (Lower Truro, N.S.) is third with 3.00 digs per set. Individually, the Rams have strong and valuable players, and it will only be a matter of time before they learn to work together in all situations to become a force to be reckoned with.
In terms of Saturday against RMC, this will be a valuable matchup for the Rams, and a chance for them to earn another two points. RMC already suffered two losses after being unable to come out on top of a single set. Since the two teams may be more evenly balanced, this will give the Rams a chance to clean up rotations, and develop relationships and confidence on the court to take the development of their game to the next level as a new team.
Game start will be at 8:00 p.m. on November 2nd when the Rams face off with Queen’s and November 3rd against RMC on the Coca-Cola Court. Stay up to date with the live action by following us on Twitter.
