Rams wrap up strong semester at Laurier
TORONTO - It has been a strong first semester for the Ryerson Rams women’s hockey team, and they will be looking to end on a high note when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night.
Ryerson currently sits with a 6-3-2-0 record – 22 points – and although that puts them at fifth in the OUA they have played a lower amount of games than a few teams ahead of them and have a chance to leap-frog those teams in this game.
The Rams come into this game having won five of their last seven games, the formula to winning has been simple and it’s holding teams to under three goals.
During this stretch Ryerson has outscored opponents 16-6 in the games they have won but have been outscored 11-1 in the two games they have lost. That shows that another key for the Rams is to avoid the slow starts that snowball into blowout games.
As for Laurier, it has been a semester they would like to soon forget, they sit second last in the standings and have only managed 13 goals over their first 11 games.
Laurier comes into the game having dropped four straight games – including a 2-1 loss to the Rams on Nov. 15.
With the Rams ability to put the puck in the net and the Golden Hawks struggling in that department, look for the Rams to try and get out to a fast start to discourage Laurier.
Finishing strong will be important for the Rams, with a long break ahead and a bottom of the table team in their way it’s possible to overlook them and assume a win. But Laurier has shown the ability to play tight games against top teams; they took Guelph to overtime and beat Waterloo.
Looking past Laurier could lead to the Rams losing out on what could be a valuable three points down the road, and finishing the semester on a sour note.
Ryerson and Laurier will drop the puck on the action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Get all the updates by following us on Twitter and watch the action on OUA.tv
