Rams hit the road to face UOIT, Queen's

By Luke Bellus

TORONTO - Coming off a 1-1 week the Ryerson Rams women’s hockey team is hitting the road once again and lacing up their skates with more points up for grabs.

The highlight for the Rams 1-1 week was their shootout win over the Brock Badgers. Going into the game Ryerson was in a slight rough patch; the offence was struggling and the team seemed to be lacking a certain amount of jam.

Ryerson found a way to dig deep and comeback in the third period to tie the game before completing the comeback in the shootout.

The win was a nice way for the Rams to go into their week-long break and they will be hoping to take the momentum from the Brock win into their games this weekend.

Ryerson will open the weekend Saturday night against the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks. UOIT has only seven points through their first seven games of the season and they have the fourth lowest goals scored in the OUA.

In both of their wins this season UOIT has held their opponents under two goals. They have only scored more than two goals once, so if Ryerson is able to score a few goals they will have a very good chance of taking three points.

Ryerson will also be taking on UOIT the day after they play the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, so look for Ryerson to be the fresher team.

The following day Ryerson will take on the Queen’s Gaels. Queen’s sits atop the OUA standings, tied with the Western Mustangs, with 15 points.

Queen’s is consistent when it comes to team categories, sitting third in both goals scored and goals against in the league.

They will present the Rams with a big challenge on both ends of the ice, but after Ryerson’s game against the Badgers they have shown they are more than capable of dealing with what the game throws at him.

The formula for Ryerson wins this year has been holding teams to two goals and under, in games where Ryerson has done so they are undefeated and they are 0-2 in games where they have failed to hold teams to less than three goals.

The Rams will hit the ice against UOIT at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and will square off against Queen’s at 2:30 p.m. the following day.
