Rams enter U SPORTS Top 10 rankings for first time
TORONTO - October 23rd will go down as an historic day in the Ryerson Rams women's hockey program as, for the first time, the Rams entered the U SPORTS Top 10 rankings as one of the top teams in the country.
The Rams have been building towards national recognition since the program began back in the 2011-12 season.
Between a one-win season in the inaugural year, to playoff appearances in 2014-15 and 2017-18, there have been many ups and downs in the process of becoming a consistent team.
"Seeing us in the Top 10 is great recognition for the effort of all our student-athletes that built our program from scratch," said head coach Lisa Haley. "The foundation they gave us has allowed us to keep stepping forward as a program. We will take a moment to celebrate this milestone for them; then go back to the reality that there are countless hours of effort needed to keep us moving forward. The parity within our sport is at an all time high and there's no time to stop and smell the roses."
Now in their eighth season, the Rams have started the year with three victories, including one over nationally ranked Nipissing, to sit alone atop the OUA standings early in the season.
Ryerson will be back on home ice this Thursday when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 7:15 p.m.
