Rams thrash Excalibur in three-set victory
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — The Ryerson Rams made quick work of the Trent Excalibur on Saturday night in Peterborough, taking a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-13) victory on the road to mark their 12th win of the season.
Leading the Rams through their attack tonight was Kelly Schaefer (Uxbridge, Ont.), who recorded 11 kills and six digs through three sets.
The Rams had a slow start to the match against Trent, only tallying eight kills on 24 attempts in the opening set. Despite their attacking woes, the Rams would pull out a dominant 25-14 win in the first.
Their authoritative play would continue through the remainder of the game, as the team continued to kill at an impressive rate: .367 percent in the second and .387 percent in the third.
Ryerson would pull out a 25-16 win in the second, heading into the third with a distinct edge over the Excalibur.
Quick play in the third saw the set come and go, as Trent found themselves unable to slow down the streaking Rams. Ryerson took a 25-13 win in the third, going on to tally a 3-0 match victory against the Excalibur.
Ryerson’s Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) finished the game with 12 digs, while outside hitter Lauren Veltman (Brampton, Ont.) had 11 digs and six kills. Cailin Wark (Georgetown, Ont.) also had four service aces through three sets.
