Rams add Connor Schlichting to lineup
TORONTO - The No. 5 ranked Ryerson Rams men's hockey team is making a midseason addition as Connor Schlichting is set to join the roster when the Rams resume action in January.
A five-year veteran of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the 6-3 defenceman will add some toughness to the Rams blue line. A self-described two-way defenceman, Schlichting is also capable of contributing offensively, as demonstrated by his 39-point season and +33 rating in 67 games last year.
Schlichting, a native of Newmarket, Ont. spent his entire five year OHL career with the Sarnia Sting, accumulating 58 points in 242 games. Those 242 games put him seventh on the Sting's all-time games played list.
This fall, Schlichting was invited to the Carolina Hurricanes prospect camp as a free agent.
"I feel like we have the group to win and I want to be part of a winning culture," said Schlichting on deciding to choose Ryerson for his postsecondary career. The newest addition will study Public Administration and Governance.
Schlichting will be reuniting with a trio of former teammates once he joins the Rams, having played with Taylor Dupuis from 2013-15 and with Matt Mistele and Devon Paliani in the 2015-16 season.
The Rams return to action on January 4 when they visit the Brock Badgers. Rams fans can get their first look at Schlichting on January 5 when the Rams host the Guelph Gryphons at 7:15 p.m.
