Rams take game one in Thunder Bay
THUNDER BAY, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams men's hockey team opened their two-game series against Lakehead with a 5-3 victory on Friday night.
The Rams, now 11-1-1 on the season, had a strong start to the game which saw them score twice in the game's first six minutes. Defenceman Greg DiTomaso was first to find the twine when he scored shorthanded at the 1:58 mark. Less than four minutes later the Rams' lead doubled to 2-0 when Matt Mistele scored his 12th of the season.
Lakehead would respond later in the frame to cut the lead to 2-1 at the first intermission.
In the second it was the Thunderwolves first on the board, which tied the game at 2-2 when Sam Schutt found the back of the net. But Mistele would capitalize less than two minutes later with his second of the game to regain the lead at 3-2.
That would be all the scoring in the second, with Ryerson outshooting the Thunderwolves 13-7 in the frame.
Ryerson got an early insurance marker when John Carpino scored just 34 seconds into the third period. Mat Santos would add another goal for Ryerson to make it 5-2 before Lakehead rounded out the scoring with their goaltender pulled. The Thunderwolves pulled their goalie again but could come no closer as the Rams took the game 5-3.
