Rams try to stay hot during visit to Lakehead
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men’s hockey team will hit the road this weekend for a two-game series against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
Ryerson, ranked No. 5 in the country, comes into the weekend 10-1-1 atop of the OUA West standings, two points clear of the second place York Lions and four points ahead of Lakehead who sit in fourth.
For Ryerson, the story of the first semester has been goals, goals and lots of them. The Rams lead all of the OUA with 69 goals through 12 games, with the next closest team in the Ottawa Gee-Gees with 53.
The Rams are coming into these two games firing on all cylinders with 28 goals in their last four games.
With a lot of goal scoring comes a lot of points for individuals. Ryerson’s Matt Mistele and Mathew Santos currently sit one and two in the league leaders for points with 28 and 24, respectively. Mistele holds a 10-point lead on the player in third, so expect him to hold that position for some time.
As for Lakehead, they had a good start to the season, but come into this game losers of four of their last five games. In those four losses, they have given up 3.75 goals per game, something they will need to change if they want to stay in games against the Rams' offence.
For Ryerson, aside from all of the goal scoring one thing has be consistent. The goaltending of Taylor Dupuis. Dupuis has started eight games for the Rams this year and he is 8-0 with a 2.74 goals against average in those starts.
Look for Ryerson to take the action to the Thunderwolves in both games of their back to back. It’s a long way to get to Lakehead, but if the offence and stellar goaltending from Dupuis shows up, Ryerson will have a shot at walking away with a number of points from this weekend.
Both games will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and you can get all of the updates on Twitter and watch live on OUA.tv.
