Rams look forward to being back on home ice
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's hockey team returns home this upcoming weekend after a rollercoaster of a week. They will host the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) on Friday night at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
The Rams are looking to come back after a challenging weekend away where they faced their first overtime game against UOIT, winning 4-3, and their first loss of the season against Concordia. The Rams have maintained their position in the OUA West after five games, including four wins and one loss.
The last time the Rams met with UQTR was in the 2016-17 season in Quebec, and the Rams lost 6-3. Currently, UQTR is sixth in the OUA East after five games with three wins and two losses.
UQTR will be an interesting match up for the Rams considering that they recently defeated Concordia 3-1 in a regular season game, who gave the Rams their first loss on October 19th. Although, because the Rams were at a disadvantage by playing in Montreal and this was their first time that they were unable to redeem themselves this season, this game will act as a learning curve that will push the Rams forward. Hopefully, by returning home, they will be able to gain the support they need from the fans to return to their strong offensive and defensive style of play.
Notably, the season ahead is still as promising as it was before this past weekend. Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) and Mathew Santos (Toronto, Ont.) both earned a four point game on Saturday night despite the loss. As a result, both forwards, along with Steven Harland (Toronto, Ont.) are sitting comfortably on the OUA’s leader boards.
For the individual offensive points leader in the OUA, Mistele is first with 14, Santos is second with 11, and Harland is fourth with nine points.
Mistele is first for number of goals with a total of six so far. Santos is tied for second for both, five goals, and three power play goals.
For assists, Mistele is tied for first with eight, and Harland is second with seven, and Santos is third with six.
The Mattamy Athletic Centre will host the UQTR-Rams matchup on October 26th and October 27th. Puck drop will be at 7:15 p.m. on Friday and 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. For live updates follow us on Twitter and stay tuned for the OUA broadcast.
