Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending February 24th.
Jayden Frederick - Basketball - 3rd Year - Criminology
This is the second straight week Jayden Frederick has been among the Stars of the Week and he's heating up at the right time of year. In Ryerson's OUA quarter-final win over Ottawa on Saturday, Frederick scored a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds and four steals. That marks the sixth straight game he's scored at least 14 points.
Brooklyn Gemmill - Hockey - 2nd Year - Criminology
Gemmill played a big role in helping the women's hockey team win their first ever playoff series, defeating Queen's in the OUA quarter-final this week. Gemmill assisted on five of Ryerson's six goals in the series and created havoc on the forecheck. The second year forward leads all OUA players in the playoff scoring race with her five points.
Tanor Ngom - Basketball - 2nd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
The big man had a big game in Ryerson's OUA quarter-final, posting a double-double with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds as the Rams eliminated the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The second year forward added two blocks and was an efficient 9-for-10 from the floor.
Karli Nummikoski - Hockey - 4th Year - Nutrition & Food
Known more for her defensive zone work and keeping the opposition in check, fourth year forward Karli Nummikoski had a strong offensive showing in Ryerson's quarter-final series which helped the Rams move past Queen's. Nummikoski scored the game-tying goal in game three of the series, before setting up the series-clinching overtime winner. She also added an assist in game one.
Sofia Paska - Basketball - 5th Year - Human Resources Management
Fifth year forward Sofia Paska had a pair of double-doubles in the Rams two playoff games this past week. In round one against Laurentian, Paska went off for 20 points and 16 rebounds to help the Rams advance to the OUA quarter-final. There, Paska put up 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Rams title hopes came to an end against Carleton.
Theanna Vernon - Volleyball - 5th Year - Social Work
In her final regular season game in the blue and gold, fifth year middle Theanna Vernon racked up 12.5 points in a three-game sweep of McMaster, becoming Ryerson's all-time leader in points scored. Vernon finished her illustrious regular season career with 1,236.5 total points to top the Rams chart. She also finishes first all-time in blocks, service aces, and hitting percentage. Vernon and the Rams continue their season this weekend when they host an OUA quarter-final match.
