Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending February 17th.
Chris Berneck - Figure Skating - 4th Year - Fashion Communication
Berneck had another impressive showing at the OUA Championship, earning his third consecutive silver medal in the Men's Freeskate. He also added a silver medal in Dance Fours with teammates Rebecca Bourgeois, Briar Koski and Bella Larkin. Berneck wrapped up the Championship with a bronze medal in the Synchro team event.
Alex Champ - Curling - 4th Year - Business Management
Skip Alex Champ led the men's curling team to a 6-1 round robin record which gave the Rams a first place finish in their pool. This was the first time in program history that the Rams finished first in the round robin at the OUA Championship. The Rams dropped a nail biter in the semifinals to eventual champion Carleton. For his efforts, Champ was named OUA first team all-star at the skip position.
Taylor Dupuis - Hockey - 4th Year - RTA: Sport Media
Fourth year goaltender Taylor Dupuis had back-to-back strong performances as the Rams swept their best-of-three opening round playoff series against the Toronto Varsity Blues. In game one of the series on Thursday, he stopped 33 of 35 Toronto shots as the Rams defeated the Blues 3-2 in overtime. On Saturday night, Dupuis stopped 38 of 41 shots faced and made a number of key saves at the end of the game when the Blues had a two-man advantage as the Rams took game two 4-3.
Katherine Follis - Basketball - 4th Year - RTA: Sport Media
Playing in her final regular season game as a Ram on Saturday, Follis established a new career high in scoring, dropping 16 points in just 12 minutes of action against the visiting Queen’s Gaels.
Jayden Frederick - Basketball - 3rd Year - Criminology
The third year guard, his first as a Ram, wrapped up his first regular season in the blue and gold with a bang, averaging 19 points over the final two regular season games. Frederick posted 21 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and two assists on Friday against York before posting a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in Saturday's win over Queen's.
Lauren Wong - Volleyball - 1st Year - Nutrition & Food
First year setter Lauren Wong recorded 38 assists in the Rams only game of the week, a 3-1 win over Lakehead, which helped her establish a new single-season record at Ryerson. Wong now has 658 assists on the season, surpassing the previous Ryerson record of 629 for most in a season. She also leads the OUA with 9.82 assists per set with one game remaining on the schedule.
