Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending February 3rd.
Brooklyn Gemmill - Hockey - 2nd Year - Criminology
In the team's only game of the week, Brooklyn Gemmill made the most of her time against Toronto, scoring a program record four goals and adding an assist. Gemmill is the first player in Rams history to score four goals in a game and to record five points. Gemmill's performance helped the Rams to a crucial 6-5 overtime win over their downtown rivals. Her 19 points on the year now rank her sixth in the OUA.
Natasha Kis-Toth - Fencing - 1st Year - RTA: Sport Media
At the OUA Championship first year fencer Kis-Toth made her mark, bringing home a silver medal in the individual epee event and helping the Rams epee relay team earn a bronze medal. Kis-Toth's performance led the Ryerson team to a fifth place finish overall at the championship.
Tanor Ngom - Basketball - 2nd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
Second year forward Tanor Ngom had a big game against Toronto this past week, posting a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards ties his career-high for a single-game. Ngom also added to his OUA-leading blocks total, swatting away five Varsity Blues shot attempts.
Sofia Paska - Basketball - 5th Year - Human Resources Management
Fifth year forward Sofia Paska continued to increase her season averages this weekend, scoring 16 points and pulling in 13 rebounds in the team's only game of the week. Paska also added three blocks and two steals as the Rams handily defeated Toronto.
Mathew Santos - Hockey - 2nd Year - Geographic Analysis
A four goal performance from Mathew Santos this week lands him as the new OUA leading goal scorer. Santos scored a hat trick on Friday as Ryerson defeated Laurier before adding a goal in the Rams' shootout loss the next night. Santos now has 23 goals to his name, breaking the Ryerson single-season record of most goals in a season.
Lauren Veltman - Volleyball - 3rd Year - Child & Youth Care
An impressive pair of games on both sides of the ball sees Lauren Veltman among the Stars of the Week. On Friday night Veltman put down 17 kills and added 16 digs in the team's loss to Toronto. The next night, she recorded six kills while picking up 11 more digs in a three-set sweep of Trent.
