Vernon and Ketrzynski named Athletes of the Week
Salad King Athletes of the Week
The first Athlete of the Week is Xander Ketrzynski (Toronto) of the men's volleyball team. The first year hitter had a strong attacking and serving game this weekend as the Rams went 2-0. On Saturday, Ketrzynski tallied 10 kills and five service aces to help the Rams sweep Nipissing. The next day, the first year player racked up 22 kills and six more service aces as Ryerson beat the division-leading Varsity Blues. Ketrzynski now leads the OUA in kills per set and service aces per set.
Theanna Vernon (Scarborough, Ont.) is our second Athlete of the Week. It's not very often a student-athlete can claim to have made zero errors in a weekend, but fifth year middle Theanna Vernon can do just that after a phenomenal weekend on the court. On Saturday, Vernon tallied 13 kills and zero attack errors on 17 attempts for a 0.765 hitting percentage. She kept her perfect weekend going on Sunday when she posted 16 kills and zero errors to lead Ryerson a to come-from-behind 3-2 win over No. 8 Toronto. Vernon's remarkable hitting percentage only increased her lead atop the OUA leaderboard as her season percentage now sits at 0.422 - over 100 points better than the next closest player (0.317). Her blocking game is also tops in the conference, sitting at 1.64 blocks per set, high and above the next closest player at 0.98.
Both student-athletes will receive a $20 gift certificate to Salad King.
