Stars of the Week

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending January 6th.

Female
Laura Ball - Hockey - 4th Year - RTA: Sport Media
There's nothing quite like your first OUA goal, and Laura Ball now has that accomplishment with a check mark in the box. The fourth year defender netted her first goal as a Ram on Friday night in Windsor, giving the Rams a 2-1 lead at the time. Ball's goal gives her five points this season, a new career-high.

Jama Bin-Edward - Basketball - 2nd Year - Politics & Governance
The second year forward had a strong showing at both ends of the floor this weekend as the Rams split their games against Carleton and Ottawa. On Saturday, Bin-Edward led the Rams with 20 points and generated four steals in the loss to Carleton. The next day she netted 12 points, including a crucial offensive rebound and-one play down the stretch, to help the Rams defeat the No. 3 ranked Gee-Gees.

Hayley Robertson - Basketball - 4th Year - Masters, Business Administration
The fourth year guard had a dream start to 2019, setting new career-highs in points in back-to-back games. Robertson earned her first two starts of the season and she made the most of her opportunity. Robertson posted a career-best 15 points and pulled in eight rebounds on Saturday afternoon as the No. 4 Rams dropped a nail-biter to the No. 7 Ravens. Her eight rebounds in the game also set a new career-high. The next day, she one-upped Saturday's performance with a new career-high 16 points to lead the Rams to a big win over the No. 3 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Male
Myles Charvis - Basketball - 5th Year - Business Management
The fifth year point guard led the No. 2 Rams in scoring in both games against their rivals from the nation's capital this weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Charvis had a game-high 23 points and spurred the Rams' comeback efforts against Carleton. Having trailed by as many as 18, Charvis got the Rams within four points in the fourth quarter. The next day, Charvis was an efficient 7-for-8 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, to post a game-high 17 points as the Rams cruised to a 31-point win over the No. 7 ranked Gee-Gees.

Warsame Mohamed - Basketball - 3rd Year - Geographic Analysis
The energy a role player can provide a team is always exciting and on Sunday it was Warsame Mohamed who gave the Rams an extra boost. The third year forward made six of the seven shots he took and finished with 13 points in 16 minutes off the bench as the Rams cruised to a big win over Ottawa.

Tanor Ngom - Basketball - 2nd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
The OUA leader in blocked shots, Tanor Ngom added to his league totals this weekend with four more blocks to give him 32 on the season - 13 more than the next closest player. In addition to his shot blocking, Ngom averaged 10.5 points over the weekend against two of the top teams in the country.

The Stars of the Week is an opportunity for several of our exceptional student-athletes to be recognized each week. Stay tuned for the release of our Athletes of the Week.
