Stars of the Week

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week for the final edition of 2018.

Natasha Kis-Toth - Fencing - 1st Year - RTA: Sport Media
First year fencer Kis-Toth made a splash in her first competition as a Ram, claiming the gold medal in the women's epee event at the Brock Open. A former Canadian national cadet team member, Kis-Toth looks to be a strong contender to lead the Rams at the OUA Championship in February.

Melina-Germana Mancini - Figure Skating - 1st Year - Fashion Communication
Mancini found success in her first competition as a Ram as well, earning a silver medal at the figure skating fall invitational hosted by McMaster. The first year skater finished second in the Gold Freeskate event.

Camryn Tait - Hockey - 1st Year - Child & Youth Care
First year forward Camryn Tait finished her semester strong, finding her name on the scoresheet three times in Ryerson's 4-2 win over Laurier. Tait scored Ryerson's first two goals of the game to give the Rams a 2-1 lead. She later assisted on Karli Nummikoski's game-winning goal as the Rams defeated Laurier 4-2. Tait's production this week bumps her into third in team scoring with eight points through 12 games.

Yusuf Ali - Basketball - 5th Year - Business Management
In the Rams' only game this week, Ali came off the bench and provided a stable presence in the back court while contributing offensively. Ali recorded 10 points in his 23 minutes and also pulled in three rebounds, one steal, and one assist.

Chris Berneck - Figure Skating - 4th Year - Fashion Communication
A veteran of the OUA figure skating circuit, Berneck showed he's still among the best as he claimed the gold medal in the men's long program at the fall invitational last week in Hamilton. A former OUA gold medalist, Berneck will look to build from this performance and lead the Rams at this year's championships in February.

Jayden Frederick - Basketball - 3rd Year - Criminology
Third year guard Jayden Frederick closed the first semester of action with a game-high 17 point performance in Thunder Bay on Friday night. Frederick was an efficient 6-for-10 from the floor, including a 50% clip (2-for-4) from behind the arc, to lead the Rams to a 77-68 win over Lakehead. Frederick sits fourth in team scoring with 11.2 points per game after a 10-0 start to the season.

The Stars of the Week is an opportunity for several of our exceptional student-athletes to be recognized each week. Stay tuned for the release of our Athletes of the Week.
