Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending October 21st.
Sylvie Antoun - Cross Country - 3rd Year - Mechanical Engineering, PhD
The Rams cross country team raced in the Scotiabank Waterfront 5km race in support of Rams Care charity on Sunday afternoon, and Antoun put up an impressive time. Her 19:30 clocking placed her 9th among 4,171 total women racers and 60th overall. The race served as the Rams' last tune up before the OUA Championship this coming weekend.
Madison Lalonde - Hockey - 2nd Year - Occupational & Public Health
Lalonde had a breakout weekend as the Rams defeated No. 9 nationally ranked Nipissing as well as Laurentian on their road trip north. Lalonde scored the game-winning goal against Nipissing on Friday with a slapshot to the top corner, and then added an empty net goal to secure the victory. The next afternoon, Lalonde scored in overtime on a breakaway with a deke to her backhand before roofing her shot to give the Rams the win. Her performance was also impressive on the defensive side of the puck, helping the Ryerson penalty kill unit go 10-for-11 this weekend.
Marin Scotten - Basketball - 2nd Year - Journalism
Make it back-to-back weeks as a Star of the Week for Scotten after another impressive tournament performance this weekend. On home court, Scotten led the Rams to a championship win in the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic. In three games she totaled 42 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Her best performance came in the final when she scored 17 points and picked up nine rebounds in 37 minutes against McMaster. Scotten and the Rams will look to take their preseason success into the regular season which tips off this Friday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Mike Konstantopoulos - Cross Country - 4th Year - Aerospace Engineering
Like many of his cross country teammates, Konstantopoulos raced the Scotiabank Waterfront 5km race in support of Rams Care and as his final tune up before the OUA Championship. He finished with a time of 16:34 which led all Rams and gave him a Top 10 finish among 6,754 total participants. The Rams will look for Mike to keep this momentum going and to lead them at the OUA Championship.
Matt Mistele - Hockey - 3rd Year - Criminology
Another week, another handful of points for Matt Mistele. The third year forward scored twice in the Rams win over UOIT before posting a four point night (one goal, three assists) against Concordia on Saturday. Mistele has an outlandish 2.8 points per game average and sits alone on top of the OUA leaderboard in goals (6) and total points (14) while he's tied for the most assists with eight.
Mathew Santos - Hockey - 2nd Year - Geographic Analysis
Not to be outdone by his teammate, Santos had a six-point week of his own. Santos registered two assists on Friday against UOIT while scoring a beautiful goal against Concordia and adding three assists. Santos is currently second in OUA with 11 total points, behind only Mistele.
