No. 2 Rams look to stay unbeaten on first road trip
TORONTO — After outscoring their opponents 218-140 across three games to open up the regular season, the No. 2 Ryerson Rams will head west to take on the Waterloo Warriors and the Laurier Golden Hawks on their first road trip of the year.
A 74-59 win against Guelph last Wednesday and a 77-40 win over Algoma saw the Rams maintain their rank as the second-best team in the country with a 3-0 season-opening record.
The Rams have been deadly in the paint this season, averaging an OUA-best of 56 rebounds per game, and will look to maintain their dominant streak this weekend against two OUA West opponents.
Tipping off at 6:00 p.m., the Rams will take on the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night at the Physical Activities Complex. The Rams have dominated the Warriors in the last 10 years, with Ryerson’s most recent loss coming to Waterloo in 2008.
The Warriors are 0-4 to open up the year but have had quite a difficult schedule thus far; facing off against Windsor (3-1 record), McMaster (3-0 record), Ottawa (2-1 record) and Carleton (3-0 record), the Warriors have yet to score over 50 points this season. The Rams will be added to Waterloo’s list of difficult early opponents, but Ryerson will be looking to replicate past results and head into Saturday with a win.
The Golden Hawks will host the Rams the following day at 6:00 p.m. With a 1-3 record to open up the season, Laurier has suffered losses to Western, Carleton and Ottawa in recent weeks while taking a 63-31 win over Brock in their season opener.
After finishing sixth in the West division last season with a 10-14 record, the Golden Hawks were eliminated in the first round of the 2018 playoffs by the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
With the Warriors and the Golden Hawks standing in their way, the Rams will aim to walk out of Waterloo with two back-to-back wins on their first road trip of the year.
