No. 6 Rams trample Paladins to remain undefeated
KINGSTON — The no. 6 Ryerson Rams put together another flawless performance on the road early in the 2019 season, trouncing the RMC Paladins 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Kingston.
Third-year mid-fielder Muaz Saleh (Hamilton, Ont.) led the Rams with two goals through 90 minutes.
Mid-fielder Sean Fafinski (Toronto, Ont.) opened up the scoring for Ryerson in the ninth minute of the match, notching his second goal of the season on a penalty kick. Saleh followed four minutes later, putting the Rams up 2-0 with 32 minutes remaining in the first half.
RMC’s Liam Chambers (Qualicum Beach, B.C.) responded with the Paladins’ only goal of the game in the 14th minute, cutting Ryerson’s lead in half early in the game.
Saleh scored his second of the match just 19 minutes after Chambers brought the game within reach for RMC. Saleh’s 33rd-minute goal marked his second career multi-goal game, the first of which came similarly on the road against RMC in 2018.
Yuri Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added a late goal for the Rams to give the team a 4-1 lead heading into half time.
Oliver Wales (Toronto, Ont.) scored the only goal of the second half in the 78th minute, converting on a penalty kick to tally Ryerson’s fifth and final goal of the game. The Rams would ultimately round out their season-opening road trip with a 5-1 win over the Paladins.
Goalkeeper Yoel Kebreab (Toronto, Ont.) made one save in the victory as the Rams outshot RMC 16-7.
Sunday’s win over RMC sees Ryerson improve to a 2-0-0 record on the year.
The team will return home to host the Queen’s Gaels in their home opener on Saturday, September 7. Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m. at Downsview Park in Toronto.
