Rams reign victorious over Voyageurs
SUDBURY, Ont. — The No. 4 Ryerson Rams capped off a two-game weekend road trip with a dominant 83-66 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night in Sudbury.
Ryerson’s Sofia Paska (Etobicoke, Ont.) dropped a team-leading, season-high of 27 points in 36 minutes in the win over Laurentian.
The Rams trailed through much of the opening quarter but managed to take a 17-15 lead at the end of the first. The Rams struggled to control the ball under the net through the opening ten minutes, heading into the second quarter having collected just four total rebounds.
Ryerson’s mid-game adjustments certainly paid off in the second quarter. The Rams outscored Laurentian 29-13 — their highest offensive output of the game — and hit the changerooms at the half with a 17-point lead over the Voyageurs. Paska led the game with 16 points after 20.
Her dominance would continue far into the next quarter; the fifth-year forward sunk four of her team’s five field goals in the third while collecting three rebounds in seven minutes.
Laurentian would outscore Ryerson 25-21 in the fourth, but the home team’s late-game push wasn’t enough to contain the Rams. Ryerson eventually emerged with an 83-66 win over the Voyageurs in their final road game of the regular season.
Ryerson’s Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) netted 17 points in the victory, going 100 percent (4-4) from beyond the arc. Scotten’s contributions were crucial in the Rams’ efforts from three; Ryerson went 61.5 percent (8-13) from beyond the arc, marking their best three-point shooting game of the season thus far.
The Rams will return home next weekend to face the York Lions and the Queen’s Gaels on Friday and Saturday night in their final homestand of the regular season.
