Rams finish semester with win over Lakehead
THUNDER BAY, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams beat the Lakehead Thunderwolves 77-68 Friday night, putting their record at 10-0 to wrap up the first semester of play for the Rams.
For Ryerson, the 10 game win streak places them atop the OUA standings alongside fellow OUA powerhouse Carleton Ravens.
It was a closer contest in this game than the Rams would’ve hoped for, with Lakehead never getting too far behind and holding Ryerson to just 77 points – their second lowest total of the season.
It was only a six-point lead at the half, but Ryerson managed to hold on in the final 20 minutes and pick up the two points before the extended mid-winter break.
Jayden Frederick led the way for the Rams tonight with a team high 17 points on 6-10 shooting.
This game wraps up the 2018 calendar year for the Rams. After coming out to an 0-3 start in January 2018, Ryerson would go on to win 24 of the following 27 league – playoff and national championship games included - games and finished with a 24-6 record over the duration of the year.
Looking back 2018 was a good year for the Rams. The early struggles forced them to go on the road for big playoff games in Ottawa and Brock, games they won punching their ticket to the program's fourth straight U SPORTS national tournament.
Ryerson had their most successful national tournament to date and came up just short in the dying seconds of the championship game.
Ryerson will be looking to build off of the success from 2018 and translate that into more wins in 2019. 2019 will start with what should be the Rams biggest test of this 2018-19 season, a date with the Carleton Ravens on Jan. 5 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
